Dear Parents and Carers,
I hope that you and your families are remaining safe and well. Firstly, I would like to say thank you, again, for your support with the home learning, we are seeing some fantastic examples of work from our students.
As you will be aware, the Government has announced that it has the intention for Year 10 to receive some face to face support for home learning prior to the summer holiday, if the 5 tests they have outlined have been met, with the review date set as the 28th May. This means that, currently, those students in all other year groups (with the exception of children of critical workers and those students classed as vulnerable), will not return to Sewell Park Academy at the present time. However, we will continue to support their learning during this time and update you accordingly about the range of questions I know you will have, specific to students and year groups. I thank you for your patience while we coordinate this.
In reality, the situation going forward remains extremely unclear with very different views being expressed by the Government and education Trades Unions and a huge range of views being expressed by teachers, parents, politicians and the media. It is an indication of just how uncertain the current situation is that parents will not be penalised for refusing to send their children to school and individual schools are currently being given the freedom to make their own assessments about what they might reasonably offer across the remainder of the school year
I understand that this is a difficult time for all families, with much still unknown about the future. I also know that students, parents and staff will be anxious about the reopening of schools and the transmission of the virus. To reiterate, the safety of staff and students will always be the first priority. In the current climate, we will never be able to remove all risk, but will look to take all measures to ensure these are minimised as much as possible. Our ambition from the start was to be the safest school in Norfolk, and this remains.
From 1st June 2020, provision for our vulnerable students and children of critical workers will return to the Sewell Park Academy site. Those students who currently attend should arrive at the main hall at 8.40 am and will follow the traditional school timings until 3.05 pm.
For Year 10, we will be contacting parents individually after half term to outline the reduced provision which may be available for students to support their home learning. However, this will not begin until the week beginning 15th June at the earliest. This will allow for us to ensure the arrangements are in place for student and staff safety, and shared with you all, as well as allowing staff to plan and prepare resources for students.
At Sewell Park Academy, together with Boudica Schools Trust, we realise the lack of clarity must be frustrating and we share in that frustration. However, we firmly believe that it is better for everyone if we are clear and honest about the situation, rather than guessing how things might turn out and making promises that we cannot fulfil.
