Status of School Trips - 23/04/2020

April 23, 2020

23rd April 2020

Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope that you and your families are managing to stay safe and well. The current public health emergency caused by the COVID-19 virus has affected all aspects of life and, unavoidably, this includes planned school trips, residential and foreign visits.

Sewell Park Academy, alongside Boudica Schools Trust, have considered the following key factors:

  • The safety and wellbeing of pupils and staff in what is a continually changing situation;

  • The ability to appropriately manage risks and safeguarding concerns that have arisen as a result of COVID-19;

  • Concerns whether insurance will adequately cover any trips to the level that we and you would want;

  • Avoiding creating any further pressure on the NHS and other essential services; and

  • For foreign visits, the possibility that travel restrictions may be re-imposed shortly after being lifted, if there is a resurgence in cases, potentially stranding pupils and staff abroad.

After careful consideration of these factors, together with the Trust, we have decided that it would not be safe to plan for these trips to go ahead. Therefore, we will stop collecting further instalments or expected payments toward trips.

The finance team will begin the process of reimbursing all of the payments that have been received so far. However, with the number of families in the school to be reimbursed this will take some time to process. I would like to thank you for your patience while this work is completed.

Please contact finance@sewellpark.org if you have any questions or concerns regarding this.

Best wishes and stay safe,

David Day
