Update from Head of School 3/4/2020

April 3, 2020

Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope this letter finds you and your families safe and well. We have come to the end of a very

difficult and unsettling term, but we are all immensely proud of how everyone in our community has

worked to support each other.

I would like to thank you for your support with the home learning programme over the last two

weeks, as we all got used to a new way of working. I understand that this can be a challenging time for

parents, who (for the most part) are not teachers themselves. We will try and reflect this in the work

we set, as we will never be able to fully replicate school. The most important thing is for students to

try and engage and complete what they are able to. We will continue to review the work we set and

any changes we make after Easter will be to help them engage and understand the realities of the

situation we all find ourselves in.

We know that the Easter holiday is simply not the break it would normally be for students or

parents. Therefore, to support in this time there will be ‘holiday’ work on Google Classroom set by

departments to help the students over the two weeks. However, staff will not be able to reply to any

concerns in this time, as it is important that they have a break with families also.

For those parents who have been waiting on the government voucher scheme for free school meals,

we thank you for your perseverance. There were substantial delays from the Department of

Education, but these should be resolved and you should be in receipt of these imminently.

As we break for Easter, I would also like to take a moment to say farewell to Penny Bignell, Executive

Headteacher, who leaves Sewell Park after five years. In that five years, she has led the school from a

difficult position to the positive community we are today. I know that you will share with me our

gratitude for everything she has done and achieved for the school and for the students’ futures in

that time. It is not the way we would like to have celebrated her time with us, but wish her every

success in the future. What she has achieved in that time cannot be underestimated.

We will be back in regular contact when we return on Monday 20th April, but please use the website

for any specific questions or information in the interim period. Over the last few weeks, all of the

community; parents, students and staff, have worked superbly well as a collective. We are grateful

to all of the positive messages of support and conversations with you. Please take time over the next

two weeks to rest, recharge and enjoy time as a family.

We wish everyone in our community remains safe and well.

Best wishes,

David Day
