Letter from Boudica Trust CEO - COVID19 School Based Childcare 20/03/2020

March 20, 2020

Dear Parent/Carer

School-Based Childcare

Boudica Schools Trust (BST) is committed to supporting our pupils and their families through this difficult time. To do that, we will look to provide online resources and support for pupils who are at home and we will ensure our schools contribute effectively to the provision of childcare for vulnerable children and/or children whose parents are key workers.

The Government has produced a list of the type of roles identified as key workers which can be accessed via the following link:

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-maintaining-educational-provision/guidance-for-schools-colleges-and-local-authorities-on-maintaining-educational-provision

Whilst we are committed to the provision of school-based childcare, in order for school closures to have the maximum impact in helping to manage the spread of Coronavirus, it is vital that the numbers of children attending schools should be kept to the absolute minimum. Parents must understand that this provision should only be used if there are no other viable childcare alternatives.

It is also essential that BST’s schools remain safe environments for both pupils and staff and as such, where necessary, we will limit the numbers of pupils who can attend. If that happens, we will prioritise attendance in the following order

  • Vulnerable pupils

  • Pupils where both parents (or sole parent) are key workers and at least one work/s in health and social care, public safety and national security and education and childcare.

  • Pupils where both parents (or sole parent) are key workers in other areas identified in the previous link.

  • Pupils where one parent works in health and social care, public safety and national security and education and childcare but another parent does not.

  • Pupils where one parent works in other areas identified in the previous link but another parent does not.

Given the above, it is essential that you do not bring your children to school unless you have had email confirmation from the school that there will be provision for them.

Yours sincerely

Don Evans
