On 18th November we proposed extending our School day for Year 11 students in order to support their independent learning and give additional subject support for preparation in their GCSEs and gain the grades they are capable of. Thank you for your support and contributions at Year 11 Parents Evening and those of you who responded to our online questionnaire. From the responses received, 76% of parents were in favour of extending the school day.
Following favourable responses from all stakeholders and to ensure our commitment as a school to fully support our Year 11 “Greatest Team” our Governors have instigated a new school day for Year 11 from 5th January 2017 on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays until 16:15.
Attendance will be compulsory for all Year 11 students. Normal processes will be in place for non-attendance including truancy follow up, fast track procedures which can involve court action and fines for parents. If a student has County arranged transport then this will be rearranged for 16:15 on these days.
We understand that some students may have existing commitments at this time and ask that you rearrange these if possible in order to accommodate the extra time the students need in school. If you child has a commitment you feel unable to resolve please contact the office by telephone or email by Friday 9th December and a meeting with a member of the Senior Leadership Team will be arranged to discuss the matter further. If you do not contact the Academy then we assume your full support for the new school day and look forward to working with your child during this time in order to help them fulfil their potential.
